Rallying Romans

UDINE, Italy (AP) – Ludovic Giuly and Mirko Vucinic came off the bench to score second-half goals and rallied AS Roma to a 2-1 victory over AC Milan Saturday.

The victory gave Roma 61 points and moved it within three of first-place Inter Milan, which plays Palermo on Sunday.
Giuly scored in the 78th minute, knocking in the ball with his shin as he fell backward in the area. Three minutes later Vucinic sealed the comeback with a low shot that beat Milan goalkeeper Zeljko Kalac.Kaka had put Milan ahead in the 56th. The Brazil attacker left the game in the 88th because of back pain.

“Our comeback is a sign that we are a great team,” Vucinic said. “To come back from a deficit against a very strong Milan is not easy.”

After going ahead, Milan had several chances to double its lead. In the 59th, Clarence Seedorf – who had been out injured for two weeks – dribbled around two Roma players, but could not get by keeper Alexander Doni. The keeper got a hand on the ball, which rebounded off Seedorf and was heading into the net until Roma defender Cicinho cleared it off the line.

“We deserved to win,” Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti said. “In the past we have won games we deserved to lose. This was a game we lost that we deserved to win.”

AC Roma will play in the Champions League next month as well. They are one game away from taking Serie A. Its too bad they had to do it the expense of my favorite team, Milan. But if I had a second favorite Serie A team, it would be Roma; Lazio fans could be thuggish..
