A man known as the Belgian “escape king” is on the run again after masterminding a spectacular jailbreak involving a hijacked helicopter.

Nordin Ben Allal, a feared car-jacker, is still at large

The convicted armed robber has escaped from prison on three previous occasions, once donning sunglasses and a wig to confuse guards, and on another occasion scaling the prison wall with a rope ladder.

Ben Allal’s most recent flight, on Sunday evening, did not go entirely according to plan.

Armed accomplices hijacked a helicopter and forced the pilot to land in the grounds of the high-security Ittre jail, 25 miles south of Brussels, during exercise time.

But the interference of other inmates hoping to hitch a ride made take-off impossible and the vehicle spun out of control, injuring the pilot and several of the prisoners.
